A new tactical cooperative extraction shooter is on the scene!
Incursion Red River launched into early access on April 10th via the Steam store. A tactical cooperative extraction shooter that ISN'T focused on PVP! Instead, this is focused on solo and cooperative gameplay where you can team up with up to 3 friends.
As part of the early access title, this is not a complete game but a showcase of things to come and an opportunity to dive in and check it out for yourself. There is only 1 map and there are still bugs and other such expected issues. With this, however, there are also regular updates and patches to fix and work out these errors. 3 Patch notes in the first 9 days and some are addressing issues raised by the community via their discord which is always welcoming to see.
On the Steam store page, they have an initial 2024 Roadmap showcasing the things they are currently working on which does include a new second map as well as some new weapons and missions.
About the game.
"Incursion Red River is a tactical cooperative extraction shooter based in a de-stabilized Vietnam. As a contractor to private military organizations that stand to gain from the chaos of a war-torn country, you will engage in ruthless combat, discover dark secrets, and play to your advantage as the story unfolds."
I am a huge fan of the extraction/ shooter looter genre. I am also a huge fan of games focusing on Co-op rather than PvP. Incursion allows you to set the game to be played at your own pace. You can customise the AI difficulties to suit your gameplay, your squad or simply your lifestyle. You can take missions to increase your reputation with traders. Take challenges to gain additional loot or just deploy straight in and do your own thing. I worked on the UICS faction missions mostly to unlock the weapons I wanted however each faction has different perks.
The Hideout is where you take missions or challenges and customise your loadout. With main inventory slots and then additional sub-category slots you can unlock and upgrade to increase your storage this gave me an enjoyable grind and something to work towards.
As you can see from the pictures below. In A on the right-hand side the Weapon Boxes are Tier 1 and the white arrows indicate that they are upgradable. In B my ammunition boxes are Tier 3 and fully upgraded as no arrows. In C my Medical storage boxes are only Tier 2 but are still max level as there are no white up arrows to indicate additional levels. These along with the main central storage and the Gear section make for a large yet organised Tetris-style inventory system.

There is also a small yet diverse array of weapons to choose from. As mentioned earlier in the 2024 roadmap they already plan to bring in more weapons moving forward as they develop further. The weapons they have so far are all very beautiful and the inspections showcase them nicely including any customisations and attachments.
Ending thoughts.
In its current state, the gameplay loop is very much a closed circuit and highly repetitive. however as the game continues to grow and develop, this will also change. That isn't to say its current gameplay is bad. It's anything but. I have hugely enjoyed my time playing and continue to play now. It is just something to be aware of going in that it might not be for everyone in this stage of its development. With its 1 decently sized Map and customisable AI difficulties you can set your own pace and challenge. I've enjoyed the Co-op gameplay focus and the ability to play without the concerns of PvP battles that may highlight my skill issues or the need for others to acquire "assisting software" like in other similar style extraction shooters.
If this is something you plan to pick up why not stop by the Discord and see if anyone is free for some raids? It has a lenient learning curve but we are always around to answer any questions you may have if you need anything answered.
