We enlisted with the Helldivers and took on the fight for freedom!
Helldivers 2 is here and don't we know it! It seems to have brought much attention to itself on release. Is that for better or worse though? Let's find out together.
The initial few days following the launch were hit and miss; truthfully, it still has its moments. With match-making issues crippling quick play and server stability causing regular crashes, some people may have unfortunately not seen the game in all its glory.
Gameplay
The early game starts slower-paced. You have a short tutorial to teach you the basics and then off you go to chase down freedom! The more you play, the more difficulties you unlock. Higher difficulties offer better rewards and rarer resources to be found in game.
Missions offer various rewards but are based around the same few activities. Each completed mission rewards XP, medals, resources and requisition the in-game currency.
Levelling up unlocks more weapons/ stratagems which you can purchase with your requisition. There are multiple different missions to undertake as well as daily and global missions also. Global missions come with high rewards such as 10,000 requisition (the in-game currency)
Graphics
In short, this is a beautiful game! With active day-night cycles and various weather conditions that bring with them unique challenges. There is a lot to offer from the various planets with their individual looks. Loading screens while short provide a layer of entertainment with helpful tips like "Don't die" and the player ships while having no customisation which would be great to offer some personal styling are still an enjoyable view especially looking out of the cockpit window.
Audio
With a massive variety of weapons, grenades and stratagems there is often a mass of various noises when the chaos starts. Different enemies make different noises as does each different weapon. The only issue I've had is locating enemies just from their noises alone. they get you in the right direction but it isn't always the most accurate. Luckily the minimap does keep this under control. Overall the experience here was very acceptable.
Conclusion
Currently, I am only approximately 30 hours into this amazing fire pit of chaos. With its Starship Trooper vibes, constant chaos and its punishing environments this game has a lot to love. Teaming up with friends is my preferred way to play but can happily be played solo as well. With special weapons like the hugely powerful Hell Bomb to flatten settlements, an array of missile strikes and speciality mines there are numerous ways to wipe out your friends. I MEAN ENEMIES! I have had some incredibly fun times with friends blowing each other to bits while checking out various new weapons as we unlocked them. You take in a custom loadout that suits your play style and the various cosmetics add some personal touches to your appearance as a great touch.
I would definitely recommend checking this one out, especially with friends!
For this reason, I give Helldivers 2 a solid 9/10
