Call of Duty Zombies: Unleashing Chaos in the Undead Realm

It has become that time of the year again, Call of Duty was about to release its new game to the world, and I thought about taking the plunge and buying it I decided on what have I got to lose so here we are.

MW3 Zombies Mimic

As I embarked on an exhilarating journey into the immersive realms of Call of Duty Zombies at first it reminded me of the outbreak mode from Call of Duty Cold War, a game mode I thoroughly enjoyed and spent many hours playing.

I was hooked as soon as I started playing It, the first few missions were easy and it reminded me of DMZ, another game mode from MWII Warzone. I really enjoyed playing this mode as it had a high risk/ high reward. You never knew what was around the corner you could run into another team and be unaware if that team was going to wipe you out and ruin your run or carry on with their missions. Alternatively, you could decide you wanted the fight and wipe them out.

You can decide to bring an insured weapon in with you and level up one of the new guns that have been added to the game or use a gun you loved from MWII with all your favourite attachments on and grind the camos on Zombies. I decided to take a contraband weapon to start my first run into this unpredictable world. The loot I first came across in the opening of the game was some basic stuff like soothing hand cream, and comic books, with such little value didn't make it worth filling the limited 5 slots available even when I found a medium backpack I still didn’t think it was worth looting these items. The missions had more of a reward and some risk as the gun I had wasn’t the best and not finding an armour plate carrier.

Once I had enough essence I headed over to the pack-a-punch to upgrade my gun, further into the run when I was heading into the tier 2 zone these zombies became more of a challenge. Faster movement and becoming a bullet sponge made it more of a priority to upgrade the gun once again. After I had done this and decided to take on HVT contract suddenly I got the dreaded dev error message.

I once again loaded back up and realised I had lost progress on that run, I had lost my gun, backpack and plate carrier, saying I was gutted was an understatement but this became a common thing the first few days.

I played on PC via Steam and knowing I am not the only one who found this issue, I also had other bugs where it would sign me out of my profile without letting me sign back in right away. This became very frustrating but after the first few updates landed the less frequent these errors became a concern.

Mega Abomination

I know this game has been out for a while now. Season 1 has already landed and season 1 reloaded has not long been released. This didn’t bring much new content for zombies but they added a new warlord Dokkaebi. Still, with the introduction to this, they removed the old warlord Zakhaev limiting the missions as the majority of players are going to Dokkaebi for the new challenge.

Unfortunately, the item rewards you get for doing this boss are nothing special. I have yet to get anything good, the odd 2 plate carrier and maybe a Perk-a-Cola can are the best items so far.

The battle pass was the standard call of duty with skins etc but it included items for Zombies which was a nice change. The nice thing that they have done was reward players who had suffered with the early game crashes etc who lost items as a result. I was happy with this because I did have some high-quality items that I had lost as a result of these crashes and I have got some of these back now.

Players in the Zombie community are some of the best players in the game. If you are downed then you can plea for help and type in the game chat the location where you have been overcome by the zombies/mercenaries. Most of the time someone will come to help when given your coordinates (sometimes when other players plea for help they spam the game chat asking for a revive but never tell you the location they have been downed???). They can not only help but then as a result of this random interaction you have with these awesome players, some randomly come past and drop thousands of essence (Currency) as well as rare items like tier 2 or 3 pack-a-punch crystals or legendary aether tools which helps a lot when you are rebuilding after a crash or a death.

High value items secured

The game also recently introduced a dark aether portal. To access this you need to obtain 4 items (Gold dog collar, Gold pill bottle, Gold dairy and Gold camera) and place them on the plinth which permanently unlocks the portal. When you go through tier 3 completing contracts etc you can get Elder Sigel's to make the experience more of a challenge

They also added a world boss and this is by far the toughest Aether Worm variant yet. It has more health, and shoots Mimics at you!

Make sure you come well equipped with a 6-man squad or more (just ask in the game chat), Tier 3 Pack-a-Punched guns, and anything else you may need to survive this fight!

This happens when the gas is spreading in the storm making this a challenge. If you want to risk it all to try and get the rewards, I have attempted this a few times but always make sure I have the tombstone perk for if (or when) I fail the challenge I will still have items on my tombstone for the next round.

Blood Burner COD

In conclusion, I found this game really enjoyable and relaxed. This becomes enjoyable if you are playing with friends having a few beers or making up a drinking game (ours was if one of your teammates got downed then they had to do a shot, as the night wore on not only did the player who got downed do a shot we all ended up doing a shot) or even if you queue up solo with or without squad fill the enjoyment and the camo grind makes this a good game, I would give it a higher mark but with the few glitches still in the game I would only give this 7 out of 10.
